Vertigo

Vertigo is defined as an illusion or hallucination of movement.

It is important to differentiate such true vertigo from other descriptions that may loosely termed as dizziness or imbalance. These include light-headedness, faintness, giddiness, loss of consciousness or general unsteadiness.

Majority of the causes of vertigo are due to disorders of the vestibular system (the balance organs of the inner ear and its connections in the brain). Other causes may be related to neurological, cardiac, spinal, eyes etc.

Your Neuro-otologist will carry out a detailed clinical evaluation to help you arrive at a diagnosis. Balance testing, Audiometery, CT or MRI may also be advised.
