Tympanoplasty

A tympanoplasty is an operation that is aimed to remove infection from your ear and close a hole in your eardrum. The aim of this operation is to prevent repeated ear infections and if possible repair certain types of hearing losses. The hole in the eardrum is repaired with a graft of either fascia (the lining of a muscle beside your ear) or cartilage. If the bones of hearing have to be repaired, this maybe done at the same time using either your own bone or a synthetic artificial bone.
