Nasal blockage
Nasal obstruction in children is common. After recurrent Upper respiratory tract infections (URTI), the most frequent causes of this are either enlarged adenoids or allergic rhinitis. As there are other less common but significant causes of nasal obstruction in children, it is prudent to consult with the Paediatric ENT surgeon, particularly if the symptoms do not improve.
The natural history of adenoidal tissue is that it will shrink over time and with it the symptoms should resolve. The management of allergic rhinitis is using nasal sprays and anti-allergics.
